Publisher's Synopsis
In 1888 Sarah Powers arrived at the summer camp in Round Lake, N.Y, looking forward to being with her friend Maggie, celebrating her thirteenth birthday, and finally winning her father's love and approval. However, one other arrival at the camp, a mummy named Tothmea, soon jeopardizes all her plans. Early in the morning of her thirteenth birthday, a precious heart scarab is stolen from Tothmea, and Sarah is the sole witness to a drowning/murder at the lake. With her life in danger, Sarah is determined to find the scarab and return it to Tothmea to end a series of tragic events at the camp. Sarah teams up with Maggie and a new friend, Nellie, to solve the mystery. Maggie, cautious and upright, attempts to keep Sarah from deepening the rift with her father, but Nellie, adventurous and wild, pulls Sarah in the wrong direction. Only Sarah's connection with Tothmea keeps her focused on her need to do the right thing to win her father's love and finally get the summer of her dreams.
