Publisher's Synopsis
The end of the 19th and the early 20th century were a rich time for postcard publishing. Hundreds of millions of designs were issued, and billions sent through the million. Almost every subject was explored, holidays - of course - being a favorite occasion on which to mail a card, and Christmas prime among those holidays. The primacy of the postcard meshed neatly with the growth of Christmas, as we know it, as a holiday both in the U.S. and U.K. Santa Claus, Father Christmas, or St. Nick, was naturally a favorite subject for postcard artists. The vintage postcards we've selected from our collection for The Santa Claus Postcard Book show Santa in his great variety. His garments may be blue or purple, green, or even red. He may come by train, sled, blimp, bus, rocking horse, or on skates. He brings gifts to the children the world over, and he is -always - our beloved Santa Claus.
