Publisher's Synopsis
T While some of the essays included in the book originally apppeared in graphic design forums, the intended audience for these works extends to non-practitioners. An insiderÆs knowledge of the design field isnÆt necessary to appreciate the works. They are efforts at connecting to an audience like the author: culturally aware and curious individuals that donÆt discriminate over labels. Given an enthusiastic and substantive presentation of graphic design, this audience would appreciate the arguments on their merits. The majority of the writings appeared in Emigre, where FitzGerald was the publication's most frequest contributor from 1996 to 2005. Additional essays were published in other influential international journals, book collections, and Internet forums. More than half of the essays in Volume were written specifically for the book. Rudy VanderLans has written a foreword to the book, which will be the authorÆs first publication.
