Publisher's Synopsis
This is my story of thirty-four years serving in every position in the sheriff's department: Emergency dispatcher, deputy sheriff, deputy coroner, detective and lead detective. During my career, I had the privilege of working with these outstanding law enforcement agencies: The Royal Canadian Mounted Police, the FBI, the Secret Service, the U.S. Marshals Service, and the U.S. Coast Guard.
I was honored with a decoration from the state when, as a first responder with my partner, we saved the lives of severely injured people when their boat was crushed against the rocks in the darkness of a storm.
I was able to navigate the pitching sheriff's patrol boat on that dark and stormy night closer and closer to the rocks. While I kept the boat moving precariously back and forth from a collision with the rocks, my partner somehow moved people, one by one, crying and screaming in pain, into our boat. We managed to rescue everyone and transport them safely to a hospital.
A few days later, the sheriff drew me aside in our parking lot and said, "How did you do that? That is some feat of seamanship!"
I said, "Thanks. I guess all those summers piloting my grandfather's boat paid off."
I hope this telling of my experiences will help you to make one of the most important decisions in your lifetime. In order to be completely candid and accurate sharing my police experiences, all names including mine have been changed.
