Publisher's Synopsis

Four gay teens deal with life's problems not as victims but as winners. Barry is a computer geek, his father is dead, his mother is an alcoholic. There is lots of love in that relationship and lots of challenges. Chi-Chi is Hispanic, an effeminate gay and a serious student of ballet. His mother walks out and leaves him with an abusive father. Denny was born Denise, but always felt more comfortable as a boy. She's a sensational soccer player. Her mother is seriously mentally ill. Jade is kicked out of her house when she comes out. As their home lives fall apart, they come to live with Owen Sterling, an older man who offers them a home. They form a family of their own where they find the love they need. Barry is working to change the homophobic atmosphere of Franklin High, where they are all students. He wants a Gay/Straight Alliance, but the administration drags its feet. Zack Wannamaker is the devil's own child. Mean, sarcastic, and stoned most of the time, he makes the gay quartet the object of his ridicule. He's diabetic and living with one kidney, and that one is failing. He needs a transplant, but he has a rare blood type. Barry is curious, and asks the school nurse what his blood type is. It is a match for Zack. Now Barry is faced with a huge decision. Should he donate his kidney to the boy who hates gays? That's one side of it. The other side is that Zack will die without a transplant, and Barry can't live with the thought that he could have saved him. When Owen (his adopted father figure), tells him he too needs a kidney and Barry is a match for him too, things really get complicated. Barry must choose either Owen or Zack. Which does he choose?
