At 14, Ivy June has become the responsible adult of the family. With her father in prison, her mother gone to who knows where, two younger brothers more trouble than help, a baby brother just learning to walk and a social worker snooping around, she has developed coping into an art form. The girl also cooks, cleans, attempts to keep up with her school work and favorite soap and worries about the ugly stranger lurking across the street. Life seems to improve when her father returns until unexpected events change everything.
