Publisher's Synopsis
This book presents common prayers in Carolinian - the language of the people of the Northern Mariana Islands. Using colorful illustrations, each page presents a short prayerful phrase allowing for easier memorization by young minds. Five prayers are included in this title including the Lord's Prayer, a Prayer Before Meals, a Prayer Before Bedtime, a Prayer for Mom and Dad, and a Prayer for Grandma and Grandpa. Please note that the Carolinian translation offered in this book is Refaluwasch (Carolinian) which is also called Saipan Carolinian. Special note: Carolinian is spoken on several islands of the Northern Marianas. Due to the isolation of the various islands from one another and as the result of infrequent inter-island travels, local dialects have developed and for certain circumstances, locals may also use words from other languages spoken in a particular area. The local government's attempt to standardize the language and create semi-standard orthography has yet to be realized. In our effort to help the readers preserve their culture, we have chosen the most commonly accepted version and after thorough checking and cross-checking we used it in this book. Listing all local varieties in this type of publication would have been an insurmountable task.
