Publisher's Synopsis
Joey isn't sure if she's on the run or if she has been kidnapped, now on a plane to Illinois after leaving at a moment's notice with two deadly supernatural beings. Her power-a gift passed down from her ancestors that allows her to see past facades and into the very nature of a person, to see the souls of those around her-is growing stronger and more erratic each day. Joey now walks a lonely path, torn by the notion that either she has been blessed through her heritage or damned to end up like her mother, who was institutionalized for schizophrenia. Her captor or new protector, Sam, has saved her from a Nephilim, the tortured spirits of the children of humans and angels, but where he's taking her may prove to be a sanctuary or a tomb. Her friend, Jackson-newly revealed as a vampire in Sam's service-is showing a more dangerous and cold side than Joey could have ever imagined. This band of supernaturally powered beings has dark means to a possibly darker end, and in the struggle between good and evil, the side they are actually on still remains to be seen.
