Miles away from her hometown in the small mining town of Timberfalls in the Montana Territory, Claire Huntsman finds herself trapped in someone else's empty cellar with nothing for company but a candle that will burn out in hours and a non-native prairie rattlesnake guarding the locked cellar doors. Will her husband Garret find her in time? Will anyone find her? Garret, realizing that Claire is missing, searches for his Mail Order Bride and dearest friend, uncertain as to where she is. Given all the mysterious happenings in Timberfalls - with strangers wanting to buy a ton of land, mysterious shipments in the night, non-native prairie rattlesnakes showing up everywhere, and suspicious miners that seem to be up to no good, Garret has a plethora of options to pick from. But when yet another visitor shows up in Timberfalls, and he discovers that people are marking out foundations for land in an area that people still own land, Garret begins to worry even more. What happened to Claire? Where is she? Is she connected to any of the peculiar things he's finding? And what is going on in Timberfalls?
