The final oral examination must take place at least one week before the time at which the student is a candidate for the degree. In case the major department SO desires, the student may under take the oral in the major and the minor subjects separately. In no case, however, may a greater time than three months elapse between the two examinations. The committee to have charge of this examination is appointed by the Dean and includes the head of the major department with other members Of the major and minor departments as assistants. The date and place of the examination Shall be publicly announced, and the examination shall be open to any member of the graduate faculty. The final oral examinations on the major and minor fields may, on approval of the Dean, be separated from the defense Of the dissertation.
