Publisher's Synopsis

Excerpt from IL Vero Amico

He came rightfully by his love for the theatre, for both his father and grandfather were lovers of pleas nre. The latter possessed a villa near Venice where actors, musicians and friends came together and when melodramas and comedies were represented. Besides, his father had a puppet show at home which he worked himself, much to his boy's delight. Thus, during the years of childhood, while his mother did what she could to educate him and his father to amuse him, Charles was developing a strong love for the stage. In his M emoz'rs, he recalls reading with keen enjoyment the comedies of Cigognini and then tells of composing an original comedy himself when eight years old.
