For thefe purpofes I have employed all the wit and humourpfs which I. Am mafier in the following hifiory;wherein I have endeavoured to laugh mankind out of their favourite follies and vices. Ihow far I have fucceeded in this good attempt, I {hall fub mit to the candid reader, with only two te quefis: F irli, That he will nor expeft to find perfection in this work; and Second ly. That he will excufe fome parts of it, if they fall ibort of that little merit which I h0pe may appear in others.

I will detain you, Sir, no longer. In deed I have run into a preface, while I profeffed to write a dedication. But how can it be Otherwife?
