Publisher's Synopsis

The Madrigals is a musical about a quintet of angels called "Polyphony" who descend to earth to help two couples in need. The first couple is an illiterate duke and his learned duchess who are both argumentative and disrespectful of each other and of those residing in their dukedom. The second couple is a leather smith and poet who seem to be afflicted by unrequited love. Singing poems set to lyrics originally written by Giovanni Battista Guarini and using the music of Claudio Monteverdi, the angels utilize the entire Fifth Book of Madrigals, which was published in 1605, to aid their heavenly assigned task to set both couples back on a path of mutual love and respect for themselves and for those whom they serve.
