Publisher's Synopsis
DI Jim Bennett faces the perpetual challenge of keeping two warring families apart in the dysfunctional town of Welford, when the arrival of a community of gypsies compounds his problems. The daughter of their leader is viciously beaten, and as CID investigates, it seems that every low life in town is a suspect. When a young boy goes missing, everyone suspects the Gypsies and Welford becomes a powder keg waiting for a spark. A spate of aggravated burglaries only contribute to CID's headaches, and when fire bombings point to the gypsies taking matters into their own hands, Jim knows that he has little time to act. The rape of a woman in a local park is the last thing he needs on his plate.
