Volume 1. If you are a newbie, you are about to embark on the adventure of a lifetime or shall we say, many lietimes. You're going to climb mountains of discovery, pass through valleys of discouragement, cross deserts offrustration, and soarskyward in exhilaration each time you find yet one more link to your origins. Compared with other hobbies, this one is relatively inexpensive, but abounding in rewards. You will e photocopying A lot of old documents and buying postage sometimes. Once you get started, you will want to buy a database genealogy program for your computer so you can keep track of everyone. The most expensive part of your research will be making a trip to the county your ancestor lied in to search through the old deed books, will books, cemeteries, etc. That will cost you gasoline and a motel. But that's about the liit of your expenses for this fascinating hobby. You willinterview relatives, find all the birth, marriage and death records of known family and even read census records from 1940 back through 1790. Next you will learn how to research most of the US wars (including names of the enemy). You will learn how to search old fratenal organizations along with old newspapers. That done, you will be ready for your first genealogy trip to ye old coursehouse that holds your ancestors' records. In Volume 2, you will learn how to research colonial records and Europe all the way back to Medieval times.
