Publisher's Synopsis
Carla and Mickey meet in Broadleaf Gardens Psychiatric Hospital for the criminally insane. Mickey escapes from the hospital and goes to live with some friends of Carla's who were once themselves, patients at Broadleaf. Mickey is shocked by the strangeness and irrational behaviour of his new friends. When Carla eventually joins him, they find themselves in a whirlpool of crazy, outrageous and often dangerous behaviour, from which they believe there is no escape. In a frenzied effort to preserve his own sanity Mickey is forced to change from a meek and mild nineteen year-old mental patient to a seasoned, hard-nosed negotiator, protector and drug-dealer. Mickey and Carla embark on a desperate fight for survival in a sordid, mixed-up culture of lunacy, hallucination and imagined invasion.
