Publisher's Synopsis

This romantic comedy includes numerous beautiful songs that ring with romance. Set in Spain in 1727, the play portrays a battle of wits waged by two daughters who pursue young lovers of personal preference in opposition to the will of their parents. The girls outwit those who intend to direct whom they shall marry. Antonio serenades Louisa from the street while her father threatens to shoot him. Clara runs away from home to find her lover. Isaac, the father's intended husband for Louisa, is deceived by a maid who invites his devotion while in disguise. Isaac, a foreigner, is more interested in obtaining wealth than in seeking true love. The characters pour out their hearts in songs that express their deep emotions. This play is a modern adaptation of The Duenna, by Richard Brinsley Sheridan.
