He focuses his attention on a pair of adolescent twins, Betty and Bobby Prior, who are awakened to the injustice of living with an abusive and domineering father. David also struggles to fight for better housing for the poorest people forced to survive in squalid shacks. He offers them hope and a better future in his native land of Northern Ireland. What will they find if they follow him to a country in the pains of a serious religious conflict between Catholics and Protestants? Who will discover that there is no place like home? The novel was first published in 1913 by John Trevena, the pseudonym of Ernest George Henham (1870-1948). This edition for the first time includes annotations about the many Biblical, Classical, Shakespearean, historical and geographical references used by the author.
