Traveling Light ... 30-something Samantha Wilson's life is just what she wants it to be: no husband, no kids, no mortgage, and no responsibility more taxing than trying to prevent her homicidal six-pound Chihuahua from killing anyone. While there's a part of Sam that would like to settle down and have a family, it just seems like too much work from her commitment-phobic and emotionally-lazy perspective. But Sam faces a crisis of epic proportions when she meets Ian-a man who is more than her match and who threatens her complacency. Despite her determination to kick him to the curb, she ends up falling for him, which for her spells disaster. Sam decides the best antidote to being in love is to actually be very far away. Hoping to gain some perspective on her relationship with Ian, Sam embarks on a month-long trip to Europe. Together with her best friend Izzy, they travel through France, Germany, Austria, and Italy, unintentionally reassuring everyone they meet that the Ugly American is alive and well. As Sam and Izzy immerse themselves in the culture, as well as the pastry, wine, and cheese, of these beautiful countries, Sam finds her horizons broadening. But at the same time, her outlook is narrowing as she realizes that, like it or not, a future with Ian might be the only path for her.
