Roosevelt lived through a booming American Industrial Revolution. He saw enormous growth of industry and entertained much thought on the projection of society. In the midst of rapid change in all the avenues of progress around him, he saw that material development and industrial growth were useless without moral and spiritual growth. In this two part collection, Roosevelt discusses practical wisdom and the fundamentals of personal growth, including: Courage, Honesty, Risk, Character, Hardship, Responsibility, the Bible, and Family. The first work "Realizable Ideals," was given as a series of lectures at the Pacific Theological Seminary in 1911. The second piece, "The Key to Success in Life," was first published in The Outlook magazine and then as its own independent pamphlet in 1916.
