Church Growth in Perspective identifies general characteristics of growing churches and discusses theological foundations along with the ethical controversies associated with the Church Growth Movement. National and local contextual and institutional factors are discussed as they combine to influence church growth. Church Growth in Perspective identifies a possible pattern of both spiritual and non-spiritual factors influencing the rapid growth of the church and provides conclusions and prescriptions for further consideration.
Using contextual and institutional factors as defined by the Church Growth Movement, Church Growth in Perspective evaluates the rapid growth of a church in the San Fernando Valley of Southern California. To determine why the church was growing, social research, participant observation, documentary investigation, and bibliographical study were used. Ethical and theological factors are introduced as they relate to the Church Growth Movement and the local church in particular.
