Hemel Hempstead is a wonderful town in Hertfordshire with a fascinating history dating back to at least the times of the Roman invasion of England, it was mentioned in the Domesday Book and was a central route from London to the industrial Midlands for several hundred years. Many of the earliest books, particularly those dating back to the 1900's and before, are now extremely scarce and increasingly expensive.
