About the Author John Flanagan, originally from Dublin, Ireland, came to the United States in 1957 and became a U.S. citizen in 1985. Flanagan served three years in the U.S. Army, studied English Language and Literature at Trinity College, Dublin, and earned his certificate to teach from the Alpha College of English. He won the Irish Hennessey literary award for his short story, "The Glazier's Apprentice."
