Gilman (1860-1935) was a prominent American feminist, sociologist, novelist, writer of short stories, poetry and non-fiction, and a lecturer for social reform. Her best remembered work is the semi-autobiographical story 'The Yellow Wallpaper' (1892) which she wrote after a severe bout of postpartum psychosis. This collection of songs and verses were first published together in book form in 1911.
