Publisher's Synopsis

Ethel Brilliana Tweedie (nee Harley, 1862-1940) was a prolific English author, travel writer, historian, editor, journalist, photographer and illustrator who often wrote as Mrs Alec Tweedie. Her husband's sudden death, swiftly followed by that of her father who died intestate, left her in reduced circumstances and she turned to writing as a means of supporting herself and her children. She wrote widely for the popular press and produced books based on her travels, including fascinating details of celebrities she met abroad. This book about the stage first published in 1904 gives an insight into many aspects of the theatre and the acting profession and is illustrated with 20 portraits of performers and writers of the day.
