Nesbit (1858-1924) was an English author and poet, best known for her childen's books which include The Railway Children, the Bastable series and the Psammead series. This novel for adults co-written with her first husband, Hubert Bland, under the pen name of Fabian Bland was first published in 1885 and is reprinted from the American edition of 1889.
