Publisher's Synopsis
Excerpt from An Essay Towards a Correct Theory of the Nervous System
The above remarks are by Dr. William Stokes, of Dublin, and are to be found in his Lectures on the Theory and Practice of Physic, Lecture 23rd.
It has been suggested to me by a friend that, inasmuch as numbers of the medical profession still believe in the doctrine of a vital prin ciple, and also in the identity of nervous in?uence and the galvanic ?uid, 1 should give these questions a thorough examination. I have done so, as far as my abilities were competent to the task. The re sult will be found in the Appendix. I have also added a paper upon Absorption.
