Je venais d'achever la publication de mon travail sur la Samarie, qui forme la seconde partie de mon ouvrage intitulé Description géographique, historique et archéologique de la Palestine, lorsque M. Wallon, alors ministre de l'instruction publique, daigna me confier une nouvelle mission pour cette contrée célèbre, afin d'y explorer en détail la basse et la haute Galilée, et de compléter ainsi les recherches que depuis de longues années déjà j'avais entreprises dans la Terre sainte.
