With the exception of Poplarville, each test contained 25 entries) planted in a balanced lattice design with six repli cations. The test at Poplarville contained 16 entries in five replications. Each plot was two rows wide and ten hills long with hills and rows 40 inches apart in the greater part of the tests. Five seeds were planted per hill and later thinned to two or three per hill depending upon location. Some of the tests had fertilizer applied before planting. All tests received at least 100 pounds of nitrogen per acre.
