Having premifed thus much of the fub?zahce of the following Letters, and the motives for their publication, it may feem impertin'ent to add, that the author was too di?ident of his own judgment to have ventured fending them to the ptefs, had he not been encouraged to do it, by fome Gentlemen of difiinguifhed rank; who were not only pleafed with the honefty of the defign, but exprefi'ed their approbation of the performance for, in fhort, whatever is o?bred to the Public, however Well intended, or be it well or ill performed, mul! Fpeak for itfelf; and every one has a right to cenfure or applaud, agreeable to his own fentiments.
