Some three years ago I was appointed chair man of a committee to report to this section on the relation of the varieties of the colon bacillus to public health. It seems desirable, after this lapse of time, that a statement should be made concerning the work, although this paper is not to be considered in any sense the findings of the committee, but simply a com munication from an individual.
