The roots given by Sanskrit grammarians, even when not found in literature, deserve the same attention which is given to the Greek forms preserved by Hesychius. The grammarians were familiar with writings and dialects which have been lost. In some cases they may have invented a link in the development of a chain of roots, as I have employed hypothetical roots in brackets.
