The intelligence of others have enabled me. I am at the same time sensible, how much a traveller through foreign countries lies at the mercy of the natives, and how liable he is to be imposed on by their exaggerations. After having said thus much, if it should appear, that I have fallen into any erroneous statement of facts, I must hope that the candour of my readers will attribute it to those mis representations which sometimes un avoidably mislead the most accurate inquirers, and not to any wilful de sign to deceive.
