If under the administration of President Barnard, Columbia Col lege, whose immense revenue gives the facility, should be made a university, separated from the college proper, whose curriculum might stop, as does the German gymnasium, with the disciplinary as distinct from improving studies, then there might arise perfect har mony of views as to what studies should be elective, and at what period of education an election of studies might begin.
