In what we have written upon the rudiments of fcience we have purfued an Oppofite plan; (0 far from attempting to teach them in detail, we refer our readers to the excellent treatifes on the different branches of fcience, and on the various faculties of the human mind, which are to be found in every language. The chapters that we have introduced upon thefe fubjeéts, are intended merely as {pecimens of the manner in which we think young chil dren fhould be taught. We have found from experience, that an early knowledge of the firf't principles of fcience may be given in converfation, and may be infcnfibly acquired from the ufual in cidents of life: if this knowledge be carefully affociated with the technical terms which common ufe may preferve in the memory.
