Publisher's Synopsis
Excerpt from A Catalogue of 7385 Stars, Chiefly in the Southern Hemisphere: Prepared From Observations Made in the Years 1822, 1823, 1824, 1825, and 1826, at the Observatory at Paramatta, New South Wales, Founded by Lieutenant-General Sir Thomas Makdougall Brisbane
It is proper to state that the Observatory was built, furnished with books and instruments, and conducted, during Sir Thomas Brisbane's government, solely at his expense. On his departure from the colony, in the end of 1825, he trans ferred the whole to the Colonial Government, who repaid the original cost of the instruments, and in 1826 appointed Mr. Rumker Astronomer. He returned to Europe in 1829, and Mr. Dunlop was appointed in his place, and arrived in the colony, for the second time, in the end of 1831. The Observatory is at present under his management.
