This resolution, Brown declared, had removed all restraints upon the opponents of slavery from discussing the subject. And had made emancipation henceforth and for ever an open question in Missouri. Slavery would be abolished there, he maintained; but out of regard for the poor white laborer, and not as an act of humanity to the slaves.
