Publisher's Synopsis
Excerpt from The History of England, Vol. 1 of 2
A word more on the subject of these volumes. It must be remembered that they contain details of the political history of England only; that is, merely and solely, of the form of the government, and of the relations of the country, in what may be termed its corporate capacity as a nation, with other nations. It does not contain a history of the progress of society, or of that of science, physical, intellectual, or moral branches of history far more important, it is true, but still distinct from political his tory political history, though connected with and in a great measure dependent on these, being only indirectly, and, in many respects, remotely so. Hence it happens that, in this, as in all other political histories, a vast deal is seen of the mime! Naturerasucs TO the american edition.
