The Portraits accompanying the former edition have been transferred from the place assigned them in that work, and placed more appropriately at the page at which each of the originals entered upon the administration of the chief executive office. The old plates, being neither faithful likenesses nor well executed, have been abandoned, and new steel engravings substituted, which, if not perfect delineations of these distinguished brethren, will be found at least to be a great improve ment in this particular.
