IN preparing the following Memoir of my father, it has been no way an object with me to raise a monument to his honour; my great design has been to produce a life which may be useful to the world. The applause of man - the breath of a worm that shall die - he never much cared for while living, and, I feel persuaded, that he now cares less for it than ever, unless it may be as a means of promoting the usefulness of his published works, by which he being dead, yet speaketh.
