Non e ben certo in quali citta fosse stato Ver gilio prima di andare a Roma. Da due luoghi di Geronimo (ad ol, 180, 3 e 181, 4) si rileva che Vergilio dopo aver compiuto gli studi a Cremona e presa la toga virile, passo a Milano, e di li dopo breve tempo a Roma. Si rileva invece dal pseudo-donato (vita V., 6-7-8) che Vergilio passo i primi anni a Cremona, di poi ando a Milano, donde poi finalmente a Roma Ritenendo probabile con l'heyne (4) l'anno 699 come termine della dimora a Cremona, durante tal tempo non pote conoscere Pollione, che al lora stava in Gallia (thorbecke, Disp. De Asinio Pollione, p. 4 Negli anni seguenti, sino al 712 Asinio fu sempre occupato in guerre fuori d'ita lia, salvo al 706 e al 708, nei quali anni copri pubbliche cariche a Roma (thorbecke p. 8 e 10-11)
