The several chapters of this book deal With a number of subjects more or less diverse in character. The compilation of these different subjects in one book can, perhaps, be justified upon the ground that they all fall Within the scope of central station commercial engineering. A few of the chapters - in slightly different form - have appeared in certain of the tech nical periodicals during the past year, notably in Power and in the Electrical World; the subject-matter contained in the re maining chapters makes its initial appearance in this book. The various data embodied in this compilation of papers have been accumulated by the authors While conducting investiga tions along commercial engineering lines for one of the largest central stations.
