During the thirty years following, its progress was rather Slow; but from 1880 to 1892 it made rapid advances, Showing in the latter year 261 establishments, using coke ovens and producing tons of coke, valued at at the ovens.
In the year 1869, the use of coke in blast furnaces outranked that of charcoal, and in 1875, surpassed anthracite coal.
