Publisher's Synopsis

Excerpt from Index Canonum: The Greek Translation and a Complete Digest of the Entire Code of Canon Law of the Undivided Primitive Church

I. When our Lord Jesus Christ declared that the gates of hell Should not prevail against His Church, that promise can not be understood to mean less than this, that however indi vidual men or particular Churches might err, the whole Catholic Body should not err in any matter of faith. Hence we must conclude that Definitions of Faith carefully elabo rated by Councils and afterwards approved by the consent of the whole Catholic Commonwealth are infallibly true. If they were not true, the gates of hell must have prevailed against the Church Of Christ, contrary to His promise.
