As this place, which they called Sarepta, was on the high road from St. Petersburg, by way of Astrachan, to Persia and the East Indies, the Brethren received frequent visits from travellers and other strangers who happened to pass in that direction. Among others, there was a merchant from Georgia, who, in conversing with them concerning the several tribes which inhabit the mountains of Caucasus.
