Publisher's Synopsis
Excerpt from The Orient Express
There are some things here set out, then, of which it has been a small sacrifice to write, even though many of them have been told before. Most of them were witnessed in the service of The Times in Persia and in Turkey, and a special acknowledgment must be made to my editor for his kind permission to make use of many articles contributed to its columns. For a similar courtesy I have to thank the editors of The Contemporary Review and The Edinburgh Review. The editors of The Daily Chronicle and The Manchester Guardian have also kindly allowed me to use some articles of an earlier date, written in Macedonia.
