Publisher's Synopsis
Excerpt from Christ's Kingdom Not of This World: The Spiritual Character of the Kingdom of Christ, in Three Discourses
Discourse I. Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world - john 18 36.
When Pilate asked Jesus whether he was the king of the Jews, he implicitly acknowledged the fact; but to prevent all mistake, as though his dominion might have some rivalship with that of Caesar, he answered, My kingdom is not of this world. In this answer he teaches us two things: I. That he is at the head of an interest or community which may with propriety be called a kingdom.
II. That this Interest is so entirely different from the kingdoms and governments of this world as not to be reckoned one of their number.
