This man, a Carmelite friar, was himself engaged in the theological debates on the marriage treaty, and was in possession Of official documents, from which he drew up the story Of the negotiation from beginning to end. His substantial accuracy, wherever I have been able to compare his statements with the original papers from Simancas, gives me great confidence in his unsupported assertions.
