Publisher's Synopsis
Excerpt from World's Fair Studies
I shall try to be fair to my reader, seeking to tell him brie?y in advance the scope and general character of the present book, not concealing certain important omissions, so that he can at once decide whether he wishes any further ac; quaintance with it after having glanced through this preface. For it is a mistake, I hold, to ask a person to read a book which he may have no inner call to know, and with which he can feel no sympathy; he will certainly lose his time, and probably his temper, in the perusal.
