Publisher's Synopsis

Excerpt from A Guide to Parsifal: The Music Drama of Richard Wagner Its Origin, Story and Music

Little book can make small claim to origi nality. It IS an attempt to assemble, for the inter est and guidance of listeners to Parsifal, some of the most important facts about the sources, the origin, the characters and the poetical and musical structure of that work. The author acknowledges a special indebtedness to Maurice Kufferath's book on Parsifal, to Hans von Wolzogen's Guide through the Music of Parsifal; in less measure to H. E. Krehbiel's Studies in the Wag nerian Drama, and to W. Henderson's biog raphy of the master. For permission to use por tions of his articles published in The N ew York T imes, he desires also to express his thanks to the publisher of that journal.
